Fundamental Human Movement

LOCOMOTION MOVEMENTS:

Locomotion  movement is the shifting of the body from one place to another. The rythm can be woven into an even or an uneven.

Locomotion movements Include

  • Walking
  • Leaping
  • Turning
  • Jumping
  • Skipping
  • Hopping

Non locomotion movements are the movement that does not involve the shifting of the whole body but the movement of some part of the body at a static (stationary position)

Examples of non locomotion or axial movement are:-

  • Stretching
  • Bending
  • Pushing
  • Lifting
  • Swinging
  • Swaying
  • Standing

Manipulative movement: These are the movements of the parts of the body to control , turn, twist, beat, bounces, bend, throw, or catch an object.  Examples of manipulative movements are:

  • Heading
  • Bouncing
  • Sticking
  • Kicking
  • Throwing
  • Catching
  • Turning

DEFINITION OF RECREATION

Recreation can be defined as participation in sporting activities during our leisure time.  It is a voluntary participation in which no monetary gain is expected

It is done after ones daily job, usually for fun, enjoyment social and physical benefits

DEFINITION OF LEISURE

Leisure is one’s free time and this embraces what one does to gainfully occupy his free time

Rest is a state of being free from activity and disturbance.  It helps to  prevent tension

The best state of rest is sleep

COMPONENTS OF RECREATION

covers a lot of activities which can be grouped into:

Indoor recreational activities

Outdoor recreational activities

TYPES OF ACTIVITIES UNDER THE TWO COMPONENTS OF RECREATION

Indoor activities: are activities that are performed inside the house, hall or generally under a roof.

Examples are playing music

Drawing and painting

Sewing, watching television

Playing hido

Reading or writing for pleasure, dancing

Playing cards, singing

Outdoor activities are activities that are performed outside or in the open such as parks, game reserves, beach  and sports field.

Examples are: -Mmountaineering Playing game, walking, jogging, swimming, cycling, fishing, camping, picnicking gardening, canoeing, horse riding, hiking

Values of recreation are

-Unconscious use of leisure time

-It reduce juvenile delinquency , crimes.

-For social integration 

-It develops socially acceptable behaviours

-It helps in physical development , physical fitness

-It gives an opportunity for the development of sports skills

-It provides an opportunity for the release of tension

-It provides the forum for fun and enjoyment

EVALUATION.

  3. Differentiate between leisure and rest.
