Meaning of Drug Abuse

Drugs are different types of substances which may be used to improve health or damage it. Drugs are of two kinds;

1. Those that are used to improve health which are legal and usually prescribed by a medical doctor.
2. Those which can damage our health, called hard drugs. They are illegal and harmful to health. These are kola nuts, tobacco, alcohol, Indian-hemp, cocaine and heroin, etc.

Effects of Drug Abuse in the Body

1. The user cannot voluntarily stop the use.
2. He craves the drug.
3. His body demands it.
4. He becomes violently ill when he cannot lay hands on the drug.
5. Without the drug, he begins to sweat excessively.
6. His eyes and nose run incessantly.
7. The pupils of his eyes dilate.
8. He suffers severe muscles twitching.
9. Painful cramps attack his legs, back and abdomen.
10. He experiences insomnia, diarrhea and vomiting.
