Meaning of Self Medication

Self medication is the process where a person prescribes a drug for self, or gets someone else other than a qualified professional to do so when he/she is sick.

Consequences of Self Medication

1. Wrong medication may be used as no diagnosis of the illness is done.
2. There may be an overdose of such drugs or an intake of less than the required dosage which can lead to death.
3. There may be serious side effects of the drug used.
4. It may result to more complicated disease or illness.
5. It may prolong the length of the sickness etc.
