Conscience is that faculty in man that helps him to judge between what is wrong and right. Man’s conscience becomes defiled when he goes against God’s commandments or sins against fellowmen. Many people are going about with guilt in their consciences. Free conscience is lost when one is careless and disobedient. Actions such as lying, stealing, and slandering, keeping enmity with others could defile someone’s conscience. A man with a free conscience has peace with God.
To have a free conscience towards God, one must ask God for forgiveness and plead the blood of Jesus on one’s heart. In addition correction of wrong deeds must be sought, apologies tendered, return or replacement of what was wrongfully taken away where possible should be made.
